A RICH HISTORY

The entire Roaring Fork Valley has a fascinating history of settlements that winds back over millennia. For over one thousand years the Northern Ute Nation migrated here during the springs and summers to fish, soak in the healing hot springs, and hunt the abundant wildlife. In 1847, silver prospectors came over Independence Pass in search of a new life and discovered the rare, hospitable beauty of the area. To this day, the region is rich in natural resources and remains one of Colorado’s most affluent and economically vital regions.

SILVER, GOLD & GREEN

POTATO DAYS

Rich deposits of precious gold and silver were discovered here in 1879, drawing droves of prospectors. As more families settled in, new opportunities arose and with them came cattle ranches, fertile farmlands, coal mining and the railroad, all combining to enrich the entire region.

Over time, as the silver and gold mines were depleted, growth in the area came to a halt. Looking to expand their opportunities, many people of the valley turned to potato farming which stabilized the economy. Today, the Potato Day celebration remains as one of Carbondale’s longest-standing annual events.

The pristine setting for Aspen Glen, with its 938 acres of rolling green hills, was undeveloped ranchland until 1992 when visionary builders saw its unique potential. Every decision made in the creation of our community was inspired by the breathtaking mountain views, the forests of trees, the meandering path of the Roaring Fork River and a commitment to preserve the natural beauty.

Today, the towns and cities surrounding Aspen Glen all enjoy an authentic community spirit, an artistic sensibility, and a commitment to inclusiveness and diversity. Best of all, the people who live and work here are dedicated to creating life-long bonds that will continue for generations to come.
