Dozens of trails wind through the twin peaks of Mt. Sopris. Farther up valley, one of the most picturesque, and indeed, most photographed spots in the world are the Maroon Bells. From an easy one-mile loop around the lake, to more challenging day-long treks, there’s a hike for every sense of adventure.

While there are more than 20 parks and picnic areas in Carbondale alone, the Dinkle Lake Day Use Area is situated at the base of Mt. Sopris, making it one of the area’s most convenient and beautiful. Adjacent to the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness Area, it is an ideal spot for picnics and lake fishing.

Whether car camping or backpacking to remote sites, the campgrounds close to Mt. Sopris are some of America’s most stunning. The Silver Bell Campground at 8,460 feet, is nestled on the banks of Maroon Creek, has 14 spectacular camp sites and boasts panoramas of aspen groves, wildflower meadows and offers nearby trout fishing.
