ASPEN GLEN’S “GOLD MEDAL” WATERWAY

As a tributary of the Colorado River, the 70-mile-long Roaring Fork River is a swift, deep, powerful river with clear water and abundant fish life. Two and a half miles of this river flows directly through Aspen Glen, which means you are minutes away from world-class, state-designated “Gold Medal” fly fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and birdwatching.

WORLD-CLASS FLY FISHING

RIVER ADVENTURES

BIRD WATCHING

From just below Carbondale and downstream to the confluence with the Colorado River, this state-designated “Gold Medal Water” section is a relatively tame stretch of the river. It offers the largest fish in the entire Roaring Fork River, where browns, rainbows and whitefish, some in the five- to eight-pound range, are landed each year.

From family floats down the majestic Glenwood Canyon to thrilling Class III whitewater rafting, the Roaring Fork River offers exhilarating, award-winning, and safe adventures for everyone. Kayaks and paddle boards are also welcome along this stretch of the river and our members can simply carry their own water crafts down to the water for a day of river-drifting beauty.

There are roughly 240 species of birds in the Roaring Fork Valley. Right on the grounds of our Aspen Glen community, you’ll see bald eagles nesting with their young, migrating osprey, ducks and Canada geese, as well as great blue herons, red-tail hawks, owls, mountain bluebirds, tree swallows, hummingbirds and many more. There are numerous bird-watching groups where world-famous spotters will take you on hikes to find rarely seen species.
